Subject to subsection B of this section, the court shall\n\nexercise control over the manner and order of interrogating\n\nwitnesses and presenting evidence so as to:\n\n1. Make the interrogation and presentation effective for the\n\nascertainment of the truth;\n\n2. Avoid needless consumption of time; and\n\n3. Protect witnesses from harassment or undue embarrassment.\n\nB. Any party to a civil action or proceeding may compel any\n\nadverse party or person, or any agent, servant or employee of such\n\nparty or person, for whose benefit such action or proceeding is\n\ninstituted, prosecuted or defended, to testify as a witness, at the\n\ntrial, or by deposition, in the same manner and subject to the same\n\nrules as other witnesses, provided that any such adverse party, or\n\nthe adverse party’s agent, servant or employee called as a witness\n\nby the opposing party shall be deemed a hostile witness and may be\n\ncross-examined by the party calling the witness to the same extent\n\nas any opposition witness.\n\nC. Cross-examination shall be limited to the subject matter of\n\nthe direct examination and matters affecting the credibility of the\n\nwitness. The court may permit inquiry into additional matters as if\n\non direct examination.\n\nD. Leading questions should not be used on the direct\n\nexamination of a witness except as may be necessary to develop the\n\nwitness’s testimony. Leading questions should ordinarily be\n\npermitted on cross-examination.
