Stat. tit. 12A, § 12A-3-103","heading":"Definitions","body":"DEFINITIONS\n\n(a) In this article:\n\n(1) \"Acceptor\" means a drawee who has accepted a draft;\n\n(2) \"Drawee\" means a person ordered in a draft to make\n\npayment;\n\n(3) \"Drawer\" means a person who signs or is identified in\n\na draft as a person ordering payment;\n\n(4) Reserved;\n\n(5) \"Maker\" means a person who signs or is identified in a\n\nnote as a person undertaking to pay;\n\n(6) \"Order\" means a written instruction to pay money\n\nsigned by the person giving the instruction. The\n\ninstruction may be addressed to any person, including\n\nthe person giving the instruction, or to one or more\n\npersons jointly or in the alternative but not in\n\nsuccession. An authorization to pay is not an order\n\nunless the person authorized to pay is also instructed\n\nto pay;\n\n(7) \"Ordinary care\" in the case of a person engaged in\n\nbusiness means observance of reasonable commercial\n\nstandards, prevailing in the area in which the person\n\nis located, with respect to the business in which the\n\nperson is engaged. In the case of a bank that takes\n\nan instrument for processing for collection or payment\n\nby automated means, reasonable commercial standards do\n\nnot require the bank to examine the instrument if the\n\nfailure to examine does not violate the bank's\n\nprescribed procedures and the bank's procedures do not\n\nvary unreasonably from general banking usage not\n\ndisapproved by this article or Article 4 of this\n\ntitle;\n\n(8) \"Party\" means a party to an instrument;\n\n(9) “Principal obligor”, with respect to an instrument,\n\nmeans the accommodated party or any other party to the\n\ninstrument against whom a secondary obligor has\n\nrecourse under this article;\n\n(10) \"Promise\" means a written undertaking to pay money\n\nsigned by the person undertaking to pay.
