Stat. tit. 12A, § 12A-3-204","heading":"Indorsement","body":"INDORSEMENT\n\n(a) \"Indorsement\" means a signature, other than that of a\n\nsigner as maker, drawer, or acceptor, that alone or accompanied by\n\nother words is made on an instrument for the purpose of (i)\n\nnegotiating the instrument, (ii) restricting payment of the\n\ninstrument, or (iii) incurring indorser's liability on the\n\ninstrument, but regardless of the intent of the signer, a signature\n\nand its accompanying words is an indorsement unless the accompanying\n\nwords, terms of the instrument, place of the signature, or other\n\ncircumstances unambiguously indicate that the signature was made for\n\na purpose other than indorsement. For the purpose of determining\n\nwhether a signature is made on an instrument, a paper affixed to the\n\ninstrument is a part of the instrument.\n\n(b) \"Indorser\" means a person who makes an indorsement.\n\n(c) For the purpose of determining whether the transferee of an\n\ninstrument is a holder, an indorsement that transfers a security\n\ninterest in the instrument is effective as an unqualified\n\nindorsement of the instrument.\n\n(d) If an instrument is payable to a holder under a name that\n\nis not the name of the holder, indorsement may be made by the holder\n\nin the name stated in the instrument or in the holder's name or\n\nboth, but signature in both names may be required by a person paying\n\nor taking the instrument for value or collection.","path":["OK Code","Title 12A"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os12A.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"28a22cda3e3f8c788ade305fce33cb846191d381ff9cb2ee573bb4855b9120c7","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-12a-12a-3-203","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-12a-12a-3-205"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
