Stat. tit. 12A, § 12A-3-407","heading":"Alteration","body":"ALTERATION\n\n(a) \"Alteration\" means (i) an unauthorized change in an\n\ninstrument that purports to modify in any respect the obligation of\n\na party, or (ii) an unauthorized addition of words or numbers or\n\nother change to an incomplete instrument relating to the obligation\n\nof a party.\n\n(b) Except as provided in subsection (c) of this section, an\n\nalteration fraudulently made discharges a party whose obligation is\n\naffected by the alteration unless that party assents or is precluded\n\nfrom asserting the alteration.
