Stat. tit. 12A, § 12A-3-604","heading":"Discharge by Cancellation or Renunciation","body":"\n\nDISCHARGE BY CANCELLATION OR RENUNCIATION\n\n(a) A person entitled to enforce an instrument, with or without\n\nconsideration, may discharge the obligation of a party to pay the\n\ninstrument (i) by an intentional voluntary act, such as surrender of\n\nthe instrument to the party, destruction, mutilation, or\n\ncancellation of the instrument, cancellation or striking out of the\n\nparty's signature, or the addition of words to the instrument\n\nindicating discharge, or (ii) by agreeing not to sue or otherwise\n\nrenouncing rights against the party by a signed record. The\n\nobligation of a party to pay a check is not discharged solely by\n\ndestruction of the check in connection with a process in which\n\ninformation is extracted from the check and an image of the check is\n\nmade and, subsequently, the information and image are transmitted\n\nfor payment.\n\n(b) Cancellation or striking out of an indorsement pursuant to\n\nsubsection (a) of this section does not affect the status and rights\n\nof a party derived from the indorsement.","path":["OK Code","Title 12A"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os12A.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"78e8a3fcf0a92894aaf294b6c90f98e41a7654efe9a507660b57d115e688200d","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-12a-12a-3-603","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-12a-12a-3-605"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
