Stat. tit. 12A, § 12A-4-403","heading":"Customer's Right to Stop Payment; Burden of Proof of","body":"Loss.\n\nCUSTOMER'S RIGHT TO STOP PAYMENT; BURDEN OF PROOF OF LOSS\n\n(a) A customer or any person authorized to draw on the account\n\nif there is more than one person may stop payment of any item drawn\n\non the customer's account or close the account by an order to the\n\nbank describing the item or account with reasonable certainty\n\nreceived at a time and in a manner that affords the bank a\n\nreasonable opportunity to act on it before any action by the bank\n\nwith respect to the item described in Section 4-303 of this title.\n\nIf the signature of more than one person is required to draw on an\n\naccount, any of these persons may stop payment or close the account.\n\n(b) A stop-payment order is effective for six (6) months, but\n\nit lapses after fourteen (14) calendar days if the original order\n\nwas oral and was not confirmed in a record within that period. A\n\nstop-payment order may be renewed for additional six-month periods\n\nby a record given to the bank within a period during which the stop-\n\npayment order is effective.\n\n(c) The burden of establishing the fact and amount of loss\n\nresulting from the payment of an item contrary to a stop-payment\n\norder or order to close an account is on the customer.
