Stat. tit. 12A, § 12A-7-307","heading":"Lien of carrier","body":"Lien of Carrier.\n\n(a) A carrier has a lien on the goods covered by a bill of\n\nlading or on the proceeds thereof in its possession for charges\n\nsubsequent to the date of the carrier’s receipt of the goods for\n\nstorage or transportation, including demurrage and terminal charges,\n\nand for expenses necessary for preservation of the goods incident to\n\ntheir transportation or reasonably incurred in their sale pursuant\n\nto law. However, against a purchaser for value of a negotiable bill\n\nof lading, a carrier's lien is limited to charges stated in the bill\n\nor the applicable tariffs or, if no charges are stated, a reasonable\n\ncharge.\n\n(b) A lien for charges and expenses under subsection (a) of\n\nthis section on goods that the carrier was required by law to\n\nreceive for transportation is effective against the consignor or any\n\nperson entitled to the goods unless the carrier had notice that the\n\nconsignor lacked authority to subject the goods to those charges and\n\nexpenses.
