The court, in considering an application made pursuant to\n\nSection 177.3 of this title, shall enter an ex parte order\n\nauthorizing the installation and use of a pen register or a trap and\n\ntrace device within the jurisdiction of the court if the court finds\n\nthat the person making the application has certified to the court\n\nthat the information likely to be obtained by such installation and\n\nuse is relevant to an ongoing criminal investigation. The\n\ninstallation and use of a pen register or a trap and trace device\n\nshall be considered to be within the jurisdiction of the court if:\n\n(a) the law enforcement equipment to be used to collect electronic\n\ndata is or will be physically installed within the geographical area\n\nover which the court has jurisdiction, (b) there are reasonable\n\ngrounds to believe the telephone device is or will be used within\n\nthe geographical area over which the court has jurisdiction, or (c)\n\nthe billing address for the telephone service for the telephone\n\ndevice is located within the geographical area over which the court\n\nhas jurisdiction.\n\nThe order issued under this section:\n\n1. Shall specify:\n\na. the identity, if known, of the person to whom is\n\nleased or in whose name is listed the telephone line\n\nto which the pen register or trap and trace device is\n\nto be attached,\n\nb. the identity, if known, of the person who is the\n\nsubject of the criminal investigation,\n\nc. the number and, if known, physical location of the\n\ntelephone line to which the pen register or trap and\n\ntrace device is to be attached and, in the case of a\n\ntrap and trace device, the geographic limits of the\n\ntrap and trace order, and\n\nd. a statement of the offense to which the information\n\nlikely to be obtained by the pen register or trap and\n\ntrace device relates; and\n\n2. Shall direct, upon the request of the applicant, the\n\nfurnishing of information, facilities, and technical assistance\n\nnecessary to accomplish the installation of the pen register or trap\n\nand trace device.\n\nB. An order issued pursuant to this section shall authorize the\n\ninstallation and use of a pen register or a trap and trace device\n\nfor a period not to exceed sixty (60) days. Extensions of such an\n\norder may be granted, but only upon application as provided in\n\nSection 177.3 of this title and upon issuance of an order as\n\nrequired by subsection A of this section. Each period of extension\n\nshall be for a period not to exceed sixty (60) days.\n\nC. An order authorizing or approving the installation and use\n\nof a pen register or a trap and trace device shall direct that:\n\n1. The order be sealed until otherwise ordered by the court;\n\nand\n\n2.
