Stat. tit. 17, § 17-502","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in this act:\n\n1. \"Commission\" shall mean the Corporation Commission of\n\nOklahoma;\n\n2. \"Person\" shall include any individual, partnership,\n\ncorporation or association of whatever character;\n\n3. \"Common source of supply\" shall include that area which is\n\nunderlain, or which from geological or other scientific data, or\n\nfrom drilling operations, or other evidence, appears to be underlain\n\nby a common accumulation of brine; provided, that, if any such area\n\nis underlain or appears from geologic or other scientific data, or\n\nfrom drilling operations, or from other evidence to be underlain by\n\nmore than one common accumulation of brine separated from each other\n\nby a strata of earth and not connected with each other, then such\n\narea, as to each said common accumulation of brine, shall be deemed\n\na separate common source of supply;\n\n4. \"Brine\" shall mean subterranean saltwater and all of its\n\nconstituent parts and chemical substances therein contained,\n\nincluding, but not limited to bromine, magnesium, potassium,\n\nlithium, boron, chlorine, iodine, calcium, strontium, sodium,\n\nsulphur, barium or other chemical substances produced with or\n\nseparated from such saltwater. Brine produced as an incident to the\n\nproduction of oil or gas, unless such brine is saved or sold for the\n\npurposes of removing chemical substances therefrom, shall not be\n\nconsidered brine for the purposes of this act. Gas, whether found\n\nin solution or otherwise, shall not be included within the meaning\n\nof the term \"brine\";\n\n5. \"Brine owner\" shall mean any person entitled to share in the\n\nproceeds from the sale of brine production;\n\n6. \"Solution gas\" shall mean all gas produced from brine wells\n\nfrom the brine common source of supply within the unit area;\n\n7. \"Solution gas owner\" shall mean any person entitled to share\n\nin the proceeds from the sale of solution gas;\n\n8. \"Owner\" or \"owners\", unless a more specific term is used,\n\nshall mean any person or entity who qualifies as either a brine\n\nowner or a solution gas owner;\n\n9. \"Operator\" shall mean a person who has the right to drill\n\ninto and produce from any brine common source of supply and to\n\nappropriate that production, either for himself, or for himself and\n\nothers, and is authorized by the Commission to drill;\n\n10. \"Effluent\" shall mean the liquid remaining after extraction\n\nof the chemical substances from brine;\n\n11. \"Brine production unit\" or \"unit\" shall mean each separate\n\nspecific area of land so designated by order of the Commission for\n\nproduction of brine and associated solution gas and the injection of\n\neffluent;\n\n12. \"Injection well\" shall mean a well authorized by the\n\nCommission for the injection of effluent or other solutions; and\n\n13. \"Manufacture\" shall mean the complete process of drilling,\n\ncompleting, equipping and operating production and injection wells\n\nand of extracting and packaging brine.","path":["OK Code","Title 17"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os17.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"5e379a610e0639358905892e94d5ccad1be5bde2c44ae6c92e23c5343d4afed3","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-17-17-501","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-17-17-503"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
