Stat. tit. 18, § 18-562","heading":"Alternative articles for religious association - Recording","body":"- Powers.\n\nThe members of any church or religious society, not less than\n\nthree, who by its rules, usage and general discipline, or otherwise,\n\ndo not desire to organize and become incorporated under the\n\nforegoing provisions relating to corporations may organize and\n\nbecome corporate, capable of suing and being sued, holding,\n\npurchasing and receiving title to real estate and other property by\n\ndevise, gift, grant or other conveyance, with power to mortgage,\n\nsell or convey the same or any part, parcel or portion thereof, by\n\nadopting and signing articles containing:\n\nFirst. The name of the church, society, association or\n\ncorporation, its general purpose and plan of operation and its place\n\nof location.\n\nSecond. The terms of admission and qualifications of\n\nmembership, and the selection of officers and the filling of\n\nvacancies, and the manner in which the same is to be governed and\n\nmanaged. Such articles shall be filed in the office of the\n\nSecretary of State and a filing fee of Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00)\n\nshall be paid to the Secretary of State. The articles shall also be\n\nfiled in the office of the register of deeds of the county in which\n\nsuch church, society, association or corporation is located; and\n\nthereupon such church, society, association or corporation shall\n\nhave all the powers hereinbefore provided, and may adopt and\n\nestablish bylaws and make all rules and regulations deemed necessary\n\nand expedient for the management of its affairs in accordance with\n\nlaw.\n\nR.L. 1910, § 1468.
