Stat. tit. 19, § 19-287","heading":"Indexes to be kept","body":"Each register of deeds shall keep an index of deeds direct and\n\ninverted, and an index of mortgages direct and inverted, in his\n\noffice. The index direct and inverted, of deeds and mortgages,\n\nshall be divided into columns, with heads to the respective columns,\n\nas follows to-wit:\n\nGRANTOR - GRANTEE\n\nDATE OF FILING WHERE RECORDED DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY\n\nM. D. Y. A.M. P.M. Book Page Lot Blk. Qr. Sec. Tp. R.\n\nGRANTEE - GRANTOR\n\nDATE OF FILING WHERE RECORDED DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY\n\nM. D. Y. A.M. P.M. Book Page Lot Blk. Qr. Sec. Tp. R.\n\nRemarks\n\nHe shall enter in alphabetical order in the direct index of\n\ndeeds and mortgages the names of the grantors and in the inverted\n\nindex of deeds and mortgages the names of the grantees in\n\nalphabetical order, and whenever any mortgage bond or other\n\ninstrument has been released or discharged from record, according to\n\nlaw, the register shall immediately note in both indexes under the\n\ncolumn headed \"Remarks,\" and opposite to the appropriate entry, that\n\nsuch instrument has been satisfied.
