Stat. tit. 19, § 19-517.1","heading":"Maintenance and disposal of departmental records –","body":"Digitizing.\n\nA. The governing body of each county may establish a length of\n\ntime for the county to keep departmental records and authorize the\n\nsheriff to properly dispose of or digitize all records not\n\nspecifically addressed in other statutes.\n\nB. Except as otherwise provided in this section, records shall\n\nbe kept for a minimum of seven (7) years. However, the sheriff may\n\nkeep any audio or video recordings from recording equipment attached\n\nto the person of a law enforcement officer pursuant to subsection C\n\nof this section; provided, the county shall keep for a minimum of\n\none (1) year from the date of incident any such recordings that\n\ndepict or directly relate to:\n\n1. An officer-involved shooting;\n\n2. Use of lethal force;\n\n3. Incidents resulting in medical treatment;\n\n4. Incidents identified in a written application for\n\npreservation of the recording of the incident received by a county\n\nsheriff prior to the expiration of one hundred eighty (180) days\n\nfrom the date of the recording of the incident; or\n\n5. Incidents identified for preservation as requested by the\n\ndistrict attorney.\n\nC. The sheriff's office of each county that utilizes or\n\noperates audio or video recordings from recording equipment attached\n\nto the person of a law enforcement officer within the sheriff's\n\noffice shall keep for a minimum of one hundred eighty (180) days\n\nfrom the date of incident any audio or video recordings that do not\n\ndepict or directly relate to the incidents described in paragraphs 1\n\nthrough 5 of subsection B of this section.\n\nD.
