Stat. tit. 19, § 19-863.33","heading":"Examinations - Certificates - Issuance without","body":"examination.\n\nNo person shall be issued a certificate as a Class A or Class B\n\nelectrical contractor, elevator construction contractor, Class A or\n\nClass B journeyman electrician, maintenance service or electrical\n\nappliance repairman until he has passed an examination by the joint\n\nelectrical examining and appeal board except as herein provided.\n\nSaid board shall within ten (10) days after their appointment, meet,\n\nand shall then designate the time and places for examination of all\n\napplicants desiring to secure certificate. All examinations shall\n\nbe written. Said board shall examine applicants for a Class A\n\nelectrical contractor or Class A journeyman electrician as to his\n\npractical knowledge of electrical wiring, the installation of same,\n\nthe installation of electrical appliances or fixtures, the\n\ninstallation of electrical elevators, the principles of armature\n\nwinding, the operation and control of electrical systems. An\n\napplicant for a Class B electrical contractor's certificate or Class\n\nB electrical journeyman's certificate shall be examined as to his\n\npractical knowledge of that type of wiring permitted to be used by\n\nthis ordinance in single-family residences and the installation of\n\nsame, the installation of the usual household-type electrical\n\nappliances and the operation and control of residence-type\n\nelectrical systems. An applicant for a maintenance serviceman's\n\ncertificate shall be examined as to his practical knowledge of the\n\noperation of electrical installations in buildings and the\n\nmaintenance and repair of such installations. An applicant for an\n\nelectrical appliance repairman's certificate shall be examined only\n\nto his practical knowledge of repairing electrical appliances. If\n\nthe board is satisfied as to the competency of such applicant, it\n\nshall issue a certificate to such applicant authorizing him to\n\nengage only in such electrical work as is described in said\n\ncertificate and as is defined in this code, upon compliance with the\n\nconditions of any other section herein relating thereto.\n\nAll certificates shall be signed by the chairman of said board\n\nand attested by the secretary thereof, and shall show the date of\n\npassage of such examination, or if issued without examination as\n\nherein provided, the reason thereof or the name of the person, the\n\nclass of work authorized and such certificate shall be issued only\n\nfor the year in which it is dated, and shall expire on December 31st\n\nof the year for which issued. Said certificates shall be numbered\n\nconsecutively, and the examining board and the electrical inspector\n\nshall keep a record of all such certificates issued.\n\nProvided that the provisions of this section requiring the\n\ntaking of an examination to be given by the joint electrical\n\nexamining and appeal board and the issuance of a certificate of\n\nqualification shall not apply to any person, firm, or corporation\n\nengaged in the business of manufacturing, assembling, wiring,\n\nrewiring, installing, erecting, repairing, or altering interior or\n\nexterior electric signs, where such person does not himself perform\n\nany of the work aforementioned.\n\nAny certificate of competency heretofore issued by any city\n\nhaving a population of one hundred and eighty thousand (180,000) to\n\ntwo hundred and forty thousand (240,000) according to the last\n\nFederal Decennial Census, shall be recognized by the joint\n\nelectrical examining and appeal board for the balance of the period\n\ncovered by said certificate and shall be subject to renewal upon\n\npayment of the fee theretofore without further examination by said\n\nboard.\n\nAny person who has been engaged in the work as a Class A or\n\nClass B journeyman electrician, maintenance serviceman, electrical\n\nappliance man, or the work and business of a Class A or Class B\n\nelectrical contractor as such classifications are defined herein\n\nment of the fee theretofore without further examination by said\n\nboard.\n\nAny person who has been engaged in the work as a Class A or\n\nClass B journeyman electrician, maintenance serviceman, electrical\n\nappliance man, or the work and business of a Class A or Class B\n\nelectrical contractor as such classifications are defined herein\n\nwithin any county, subject to the provisions of this act for a\n\nperiod of at least five (5) years immediately preceding the passage\n\nof this act, shall upon proof of such work be issued a certificate\n\nof competency by the joint electrical examining and appeal board\n\nwithout examination and upon such person's payment of all fees as\n\nprovided herein and provided further the application therefore is\n\nmade within sixty (60) days after the creation of the joint\n\nelectrical examining and appeal board.
