Stat. tit. 19, § 19-864.10","heading":"Electrical inspector - Selection - Duties","body":"There is hereby authorized the creation of the office of\n\n\"electrical inspector\" of the county or metropolitan area as defined\n\nherein. Such electrical inspector shall be a person familiar with\n\nall types of electrical installations and methods and shall be\n\nfamiliar with the electrical code of any affected municipality or\n\ncounty and shall have ten (10) years' practical experience in\n\nelectrical work as a contractor, engineer or Class A journeyman\n\nelectrician, and shall be licensed by the joint electrical examining\n\nand appeals board.\n\nA city electrical inspector shall be appointed by the governing\n\nbody of the city, a county electrical inspector shall be appointed\n\nby the board of county commissioners and a metropolitan electrical\n\ninspector shall be appointed in accordance with any written\n\nagreement executed by the governing body of the city and board of\n\ncounty commissioners creating such office. The governmental unit or\n\nunits authorized to make such appointments may employ such deputy\n\nelectrical inspectors who shall possess the same qualifications, for\n\nsuch terms and at such compensation as the affected governmental\n\nunit or units shall determine.\n\nIt shall be the duty of any such electrical inspector and/or any\n\nsuch deputy electrical inspectors to inspect all electrical\n\ninstallations on new construction and on changes, revisions or\n\nremodeling of existing structures lying within the jurisdiction of\n\nthe appointing governmental unit or units, to determine that all\n\nsuch installations are in strict conformity with the requirements of\n\nthis act and to determine that all such installations are performed\n\nby competent licensed workmen, according to the qualifications\n\nherein contained; provided, any person who shall make a false\n\naffidavit in order to obtain electrical inspection shall be guilty\n\nof perjury and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished as\n\nprovided by the statutes of this state relating to the crime of\n\nperjury. Nothing contained herein should be construed as exempting\n\nany unlicensed individual who is otherwise authorized from the\n\npayment of regular inspection fees, or as exempting his electrical\n\nwork from compliance with the same standards of safety as are\n\napplied to the inspection of electrical work by a licensed workman.\n\nAny electrical inspector of the appropriate jurisdiction shall\n\nhave the authority to condemn any electrical wiring which is unsafe\n\nwithin any city, county or metropolitan area within the terms of\n\nthis act, provided, however, that a county electrical inspector\n\nshall not have jurisdiction in the corporate limits of or upon\n\nproperty owned by any city having established an electrical\n\ninspection department. Such city shall have jurisdiction upon\n\nproperty owned by it whether located within or without its corporate\n\nlimits. Provided further, that nothing herein contained shall be\n\nconstrued as extending the jurisdiction of any inspector of a city\n\nhaving a population in excess of one hundred eighty thousand\n\n(180,000) persons, the county or metropolitan inspector to areas\n\nwithin the corporate limits of cities or towns having a population\n\nless than one hundred eighty thousand (180,000) persons and located\n\nwithin any affected county.\n\nNotices shall be mailed to the property owner specifying any\n\nnecessary changes and a reasonable amount of time shall be given any\n\nsuch owner to comply with the inspector's decision, and a copy of\n\nthe notice shall be filed with the utility supplying electrical\n\nservice. If compliance with the inspector's decision has not been\n\ncompleted on or before the expiration of the time allowed, the\n\ninspector shall have the authority to have the electrical service of\n\nsuch property disconnected.\n\nThe affected governmental unit or units of any such county shall\n\ndetermine and fix the reasonable fees to be charged for inspections,\nh the utility supplying electrical\n\nservice. If compliance with the inspector's decision has not been\n\ncompleted on or before the expiration of the time allowed, the\n\ninspector shall have the authority to have the electrical service of\n\nsuch property disconnected.\n\nThe affected governmental unit or units of any such county shall\n\ndetermine and fix the reasonable fees to be charged for inspections,\n\nwhich fees shall be sufficient to meet the expenses of operation of\n\nthe office or offices of the electrical inspector. All of such\n\ninspection fees shall be payable to the general fund of the\n\nauthorizing and supervising governmental unit or units.\n\nThe electrical inspector shall adopt such rules in regard to the\n\nmethod of inspection and the time thereof as may be necessary and\n\nproper to carry out the intent of this act, but all of such rules\n\nand regulations shall be in strict accordance with the terms of this\n\nact. After notice is received by the office of the electrical\n\ninspector of the desire by any person for an electrical inspection,\n\nthe same shall be accomplished as soon as practicable. No public\n\nutility shall furnish electrical service until such work has been\n\ninspected and approved.\n\nThe chief electrical inspector of the city, county or\n\nmetropolitan area shall have the authority to designate one person,\n\nqualified as an electrical inspector as provided herein, to act as\n\nan investigator for the purpose of enforcing the provisions of this\n\nstatute. Such person shall be responsible for presenting all cases\n\nof violations to the city or district courts for prosecution. He\n\nshall be bonded and shall carry a commission for this purpose.\n\nNo electrical inspector shall accept any gratuity for any\n\nservices performed, acts of commission or omission in connection\n\nwith the duties and obligations charged to be performed by his\n\noffice, or be connected in any way with any person, firm or\n\ncorporation engaged in the business of electrical contracting of any\n\nclassification.\n\nUpon the application of any municipality which lies wholly or\n\npartly within the county or metropolitan area and which is not\n\notherwise covered by this act, and upon the authorization of the\n\nboard of county commissioners, and the governing body of the city if\n\na metropolitan electrical inspection office has been created, the\n\nelectrical inspector may inspect electrical installations in such\n\nexcluded municipality, provided that such municipalities shall\n\ncollect and pay to the general fund of the county a fee for each\n\ninspection in an amount determined by the board of county\n\ncommissioners.\n\nThis act shall apply to all counties having a population of over\n\nthree hundred thousand (300,000) according to the last decennial\n\ncensus.","path":["OK Code","Title 19"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os19.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"533f35cd8adfabb2f82e00ee0c0e1404331b6207b93d197cbc3faafc653696c3","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-19-19-864.1","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-19-19-864.11"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
