Stat. tit. 19, § 19-864.4","heading":"Certificates of competency - Examinations","body":"No person shall be issued a certificate of competency as a Class\n\nA electrical contractor, Class B electrical contractor, appliance\n\nrepair shop, electrical sign contractor, motor shops, Class A\n\njourneyman electrician, Class B journeyman electrician, journeyman\n\nsign electrician, or electrical appliance repairman until he has\n\npassed an examination by the joint electrical examining and appeals\n\nboard, except as herein provided. Said board shall meet within ten\n\n(10) days after its appointment and shall then designate the time\n\nand place for the first examination of all applicants desiring to\n\nsecure certificates.\n\nSaid board shall examine applicants for certificate of\n\ncompetency as Class A electrical contractors or Class A journeyman\n\nelectricians, as to their practical knowledge of electrical wiring,\n\nthe installation of same, the installation of electrical appliance\n\nor fixtures, and the operation and control of electrical systems.\n\nApplicants for certificate of competency as Class A electrical\n\ncontractors shall further be required to present evidence of five\n\n(5) years' actual electrical experience. Applicants for certificate\n\nof competency as Class A journeyman electricians shall further be\n\nrequired to present evidence of three (3) years' actual electrical\n\nexperience. A credit shall be allowed, however, of not to exceed\n\none (1) year for Class A and Class B electrical contractor\n\napplicants, electrical sign contractor applicants, and Class A and\n\nClass B journeyman electrician applicants for time spent as a\n\nstudent in a program of electrical study or training at a school\n\napproved by the board. Such board approval shall not be required,\n\nhowever, with respect to publicly supported technology center\n\nschools.\n\nAll other applicants for certificates of competency shall be\n\nexamined as to their practical knowledge of the installation,\n\nmaintenance and repair of the appliances, equipment, apparatus and\n\nsystems permitted to be worked on under the certificate which they\n\nseek. All examinations shall be written. If the applicant\n\ndemonstrates his competency in that phase of the trade for which a\n\ncertificate of competency is sought the board shall issue a\n\ncertificate of competency to such applicant authorizing him to\n\nengage only in such electrical work described in said certificate\n\nupon compliance with the conditions of any other section herein\n\nrelating thereto.\n\nAll certificates shall be signed by the chairman of said board\n\nand attested by the secretary and shall show the date of passage of\n\nthe examination or, if issued without examination as herein\n\nprovided, the reason therefor, the name of the person and the class\n\nof work authorized. Such certificate shall be issued only for the\n\nyear in which it is dated and shall expire on December 31 of the\n\nyear for which issued. Certificates shall be numbered consecutively\n\nand the examining board and the electrical inspector shall keep a\n\nrecord of all such certificates issued.\n\nIt shall be unlawful for any certificate of competency or\n\nlicense holder to transfer his certificate or license or to allow it\n\nto be used directly or indirectly by any other person.\n\nLicensed contractors shall employ workmen licensed in the\n\ncategory of the contractor's work classification.\n\nAny certificate of competency or license heretofore issued by a\n\ncity of this state having a population of one hundred eighty\n\nthousand (180,000), or more, according to the last Federal Decennial\n\nCensus, or by a joint examining and/or appeals board created under\n\nany previous act, shall be recognized for the balance of the year of\n\nits issue by the joint electrical examining and appeals board in the\n\ncounty in which such city or joint board shall have been located.\n\nSuch certificates or licenses shall be subject to renewal without\n\nfurther examination upon payment of the regularly established\nsus, or by a joint examining and/or appeals board created under\n\nany previous act, shall be recognized for the balance of the year of\n\nits issue by the joint electrical examining and appeals board in the\n\ncounty in which such city or joint board shall have been located.\n\nSuch certificates or licenses shall be subject to renewal without\n\nfurther examination upon payment of the regularly established\n\nrenewal fee in the same manner as if such certificate or license had\n\nbeen originally issued by the joint electrical examining and appeals\n\nboard to which it is presented for renewal.\n\nIn any county not heretofore covered by a statutory electrical\n\ncode, any person who has been engaged in the work as a Class A\n\njourneyman electrician, Class B journeyman electrician, sign\n\nelectrician, electrical appliance repairman or the work and business\n\nof a Class A electrical contractor, Class B electrical contractor,\n\nelectrical sign contractor, motor shop or appliance repair shop, as\n\nsuch classifications are defined herein, within any county subject\n\nto the provisions of this act, for a period of at least two (2)\n\nyears, immediately preceding July 5, 1965, shall, upon proof of such\n\nwork, be issued a certificate of competency by the joint electrical\n\nexamining and appeals board without examination and upon such\n\nperson's payment of all fees as provided herein, and provided\n\nfurther that the application therefor is made within sixty (60) days\n\nafter the creation of the joint electrical examining and appeals\n\nboard.
