Stat. tit. 2, § 2-6-183","heading":"Inspection of animals to be slaughtered - Setting apart","body":"of animals - Methods of slaughter - Examination and inspection of\n\nmethod of slaughter.\n\nA. For the purpose of preventing the use in intrastate\n\ncommerce, as hereinafter provided, of meat and meat food products\n\nwhich are adulterated, the Board shall cause to be made, by\n\ninspectors appointed for that purpose, an examination and inspection\n\nof all cattle, bison, sheep, swine, goats, horses, mules and other\n\nequines before they shall be allowed to enter into any slaughtering,\n\npacking, meat-canning, rendering or similar establishment in this\n\nstate in which slaughtering and preparation of meat and meat food\n\nproducts of such animals are conducted for intrastate commerce; and\n\nall cattle, bison, sheep, swine, goats, horses, mules and other\n\nequines found on such inspection to show symptoms of disease shall\n\nbe set apart and slaughtered separately from all other cattle,\n\nbison, sheep, swine, goats, horses, mules or other equines, and when\n\nso slaughtered, the carcasses of said cattle, bison, sheep, swine,\n\ngoats, horses, mules or other equines shall be subject to a careful\n\nexamination and inspection, all as provided by the rules and\n\nregulations to be prescribed by the Board as herein provided for.\n\nB. For the purpose of preventing the inhumane slaughter of\n\nlivestock, the Board shall cause to be made, by inspectors appointed\n\nfor that purpose, an examination and inspection of the method by\n\nwhich cattle, bison, sheep, swine, goats, horses, mules and other\n\nequines are slaughtered and handled in connection with slaughter in\n\nthe slaughtering establishments inspected by law. The Board may\n\nrefuse to provide inspection to a new slaughtering establishment or\n\nmay cause inspection to be temporarily suspended at a slaughtering\n\nestablishment if the Board finds that any cattle, bison, sheep,\n\nswine, goats, horses, mules or other equines have been slaughtered\n\nor handled in connection with slaughter at such establishment by any\n\nmethod not in accordance with this section until the establishment\n\nfurnishes assurances satisfactory to the Board that all slaughtering\n\nand handling in connection with slaughter of livestock shall be in\n\naccordance with such method.\n\nC. Either of the following two methods of slaughtering\n\nlivestock and handling livestock in connection with slaughter are\n\nhereby found to be humane:\n\n1. In the case of cattle, bison, sheep, swine, goats, horses,\n\nmules or other equines, the animals are rendered insensible to pain\n\nby a single blow or gunshot or an electrical, chemical or other\n\nmeans that is rapid and effective, before being shackled, hoisted,\n\nthrown, cast or cut; or\n\n2. By slaughtering in accordance with the ritual requirements\n\nof the Jewish faith or any other religious faith that prescribes a\n\nmethod of slaughter whereby the animal suffers loss of consciousness\n\nby anemia of the brain caused by the simultaneous and instantaneous\n\nseverance of the carotid arteries with a sharp instrument and\n\nhandling in connection with such slaughtering.","path":["OK Code","Title 2"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os2.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"ddc611056afab2bd432cef144917c9cf38d4c1c54df40b48a61c40d418c1aa8a","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-2-2-6-182.1","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-2-2-6-184"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
