Stat. tit. 2, § 2-6-252","heading":"Purpose","body":"Poultry and poultry products are an important source of the\n\nnation's total supply of food. It is essential in the public\n\ninterest that the health and welfare of consumers be protected by\n\nassuring that slaughtered poultry and poultry products distributed\n\nto them are wholesome, not adulterated, and properly marked,\n\nlabeled, and packaged. Unwholesome, adulterated, or misbranded\n\npoultry or poultry products are injurious to the public welfare,\n\ndestroy markets for wholesome, not adulterated, and properly labeled\n\nand packaged poultry and poultry products, and result in sundry\n\nlosses to poultry producers and processors of poultry and poultry\n\nproducts, as well as injury to consumers. The unwholesome,\n\nadulterated, mislabeled, or deceptively packaged articles can be\n\nsold at lower prices and compete unfairly with the wholesome, not\n\nadulterated, and properly labeled and packaged articles, to the\n\ndetriment of consumers and the public generally.
