This section shall be known and may be cited as the “Chronic\n\nWasting Disease Genetic Improvement Act”.\n\nB. No later than November 1, 2024, the Oklahoma Department of\n\nAgriculture, Food, and Forestry shall establish a pilot program to\n\nenhance the genetic durability of Oklahoma deer against chronic\n\nwasting disease. Such pilot program shall include, but not be\n\nlimited to, the following program characteristics:\n\n1. The Department of Wildlife Conservation will begin\n\ncollecting DNA samples to establish a baseline of average genetic\n\ncodon markers and genomic breeding values for native, free-ranging\n\nOklahoma white-tailed deer. For establishing testing locations in\n\nthe state, the Department shall use Interstates 35 and 40 as\n\ndividing lines or established Department deer management zones as\n\npublished in the current hunting regulations guide;\n\n2. Limit participation in the program to native white-tailed\n\ndeer, born and raised in Oklahoma with genetic resistance breeding,\n\nincluding the SS allele at codon 96, and that surpass the genomic\n\nestimated breeding value cutoff established for the program by the\n\nOklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry; and\n\n3. Beginning in 2026, during the months of February and March\n\nand through the fifteenth of April, bred female and male deer may be\n\nreleased.\n\nC. The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry\n\nand the Department of Wildlife Conservation may promulgate rules as\n\nneeded to implement the provisions of this act.\n\nD.
