Stat. tit. 20, § 20-106.3B","heading":"Persons qualified for appointment as court reporter","body":"Only the following persons may act and are eligible for\n\nappointment on a full-time or part-time basis as official court\n\nreporters for the courts, including the Workers' Compensation\n\nCommission, Workers' Compensation Court of Existing Claims, and the\n\nCorporation Commission:\n\n1. Persons now certified or hereafter certified by the State\n\nBoard of Examiners of Certified Shorthand Reporters shall be given\n\nprimary consideration for appointment;\n\n2. Persons who, prior to July 1, 1978, were licensed as\n\nlicensed shorthand reporters by the State Board of Examiners of\n\nCertified Shorthand Reporters shall be given secondary consideration\n\nfor appointment;\n\n3. Persons who, prior to July 1, 1978, were acting shorthand\n\nreporters under a certificate issued by the Chief Justice;\n\n4. When no person eligible for appointment as an official court\n\nreporter, as provided above, is available for appointment, a\n\npresiding judge or a district judge may make application to the\n\nChief Justice to appoint a shorthand reporter on a temporary basis.\n\nThe candidate must file with the State Board of Examiners of\n\nCertified Shorthand Reporters a properly completed application for a\n\ntemporary certificate, along with any other supporting documents or\n\ninformation required by the Board, and shall pay the applicable\n\nexamination fee as set forth in the fee schedule issued by the Board\n\nwhich shall be deposited with the Clerk of the Supreme Court. The\n\nBoard shall advise the Chief Justice if the applicant is recommended\n\nfor a temporary certificate. The Chief Justice may issue a\n\ntemporary certificate valid for not more than twelve (12) months.\n\nThe temporary certificate shall be nonrenewable, except in emergency\n\nsituations as determined by the Chief Justice. Absent good cause\n\nshown as determined by the State Board of Examiners of Certified\n\nShorthand Reporters, a temporary certificate holder shall sit for at\n\nleast one Oklahoma certified shorthand reporter examination\n\nadministered during the term of the temporary certificate. The\n\nholder shall be required to transcribe the examination, and the\n\nexamination results shall be reported to the holder's supervisory\n\njudge;\n\n5. The appointment of an official court reporter by a district\n\nor presiding judge shall be subject to the approval of the Chief\n\nJustice. Before giving his approval to the appointment, the Chief\n\nJustice shall determine, with the aid of the Administrative Director\n\nof the Courts, that the appointing judge has given proper\n\nconsideration to the statutory preference accorded herein to\n\ncertified and licensed reporters; and\n\n6. A temporary court reporter, either while so serving or after\n\nthe expiration of this appointment, shall be required to transcribe\n\nany testimony and other proceedings taken by him and to certify that\n\nthe transcription is true and correct.
