The State Board of Examiners of Certified Courtroom\n\nInterpreters shall:\n\n1. Determine and establish levels of recognized courtroom\n\ninterpreter credentials in this state including but not limited to\n\ncertified and registered courtroom interpreters, to meet the needs\n\nof a variety of court proceedings, as the Board deems necessary and\n\nappropriate;\n\n2. Conduct preliminary investigations to determine the\n\nqualifications of applicants seeking to attain an Oklahoma courtroom\n\ninterpreter credential;\n\n3. Conduct at least once a year, at a place and time to be\n\npublished by reasonable notice as directed by the Supreme Court, the\n\ntraining program and examinations required of those persons who seek\n\nto attain an Oklahoma courtroom interpreter credential, or contract\n\nfor such training program and examinations. The Board shall also\n\ninclude an examination of interpreter ethics as a condition of\n\nattaining an Oklahoma courtroom interpreter credential;\n\n4. Recommend to the Supreme Court for official enrollment as\n\ncertified or registered courtroom interpreter or other recognized\n\nlevels of interpreter credentials those persons who, on their\n\nexaminations, have established the requisite proficiency as set\n\nforth in the Board's rules and Section 1703 of this title;\n\n5. Conduct proceedings, on reasonable notice, the object of\n\nwhich are to recommend to the Supreme Court the suspension,\n\ncancellation, revocation, or reinstatement of the enrollment of a\n\ncertified courtroom interpreter on the following grounds:\n\na. a final conviction of a criminal offense involving\n\nmoral turpitude,\n\nb. misrepresentation in obtaining an Oklahoma courtroom\n\ninterpreter credential,\n\nc. any violation of or noncompliance with any rule or\n\ndirective of the Supreme Court including but not\n\nlimited to the Code of Professional Responsibility for\n\nInterpreters in the Oklahoma Courts,\n\nd. fraud, gross incompetence, or gross or habitual\n\nneglect of duty,\n\ne. misrepresentation of credential level or status while\n\nengaging in the practice of courtroom interpreting in\n\na court of this state or accepting payment from the\n\ncourt at an hourly rate greater than the rate\n\nauthorized for the level of credential held by the\n\ninterpreter,\n\nf. engaging in the practice of courtroom interpreting or\n\ntranslating in a court of this state while\n\ncertification is suspended,\n\ng. failure to renew credential pursuant to rules of the\n\nBoard, or\n\nh. failure to annually complete at least eight (8) hours\n\nof continuing education approved by the State Board of\n\nExaminers of Courtroom Interpreters;\n\n6. Adopt, with the approval of the Supreme Court, examination\n\nstandards and rules governing enrollment, discipline, suspension,\n\ncancellation, and revocation proceedings and any other matter within\n\nthe Board's cognizance; and\n\n7. Keep a current roll of registered and certified courtroom\n\ninterpreters and a file on all disciplined registered and certified\n\ncourtroom interpreters.\n\nB. In all hearings or investigations on revocation,\n\ncancellation, or suspension of enrollment, each Board member shall\n\nbe empowered to administer oaths or affirmations, subpoena\n\nwitnesses, and take evidence anywhere in the state, after giving\n\nreasonable notice to the party whose status is sought to be\n\naffected.\n\nC.
