Stat. tit. 21, § 21-1290.15","heading":"Persons exempt from training course","body":"PERSONS EXEMPT FROM TRAINING COURSE\n\nA. The following individuals may be exempt from all or part of\n\nthe required training and qualification course established pursuant\n\nto the provisions of Section 1290.14 of this title:\n\n1. A firearms instructor registered with the Oklahoma State\n\nBureau of Investigation for purposes of the Oklahoma Self-Defense\n\nAct;\n\n2. An active duty or reserve duty law enforcement officer of\n\nthis state or any of its political subdivisions or of the federal\n\ngovernment;\n\n3. A retired law enforcement officer authorized by this state\n\npursuant to Section 1289.8 of this title to carry a firearm;\n\n4. A Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET)\n\ncertified armed security officer, armed guard, correctional officer,\n\nor any other person having a CLEET certification to carry a firearm\n\nin the course of their employment;\n\n5. A person on active military duty, National Guard duty or\n\nregular military reserve duty who is a legal resident of this state\n\nand who is trained and qualified in the use of handguns;\n\n6. A person honorably discharged from active military duty,\n\nNational Guard duty or military reserves who is a legal resident of\n\nthis state;\n\n7. A person retired as a peace officer in good standing from a\n\nlaw enforcement agency located in another state, who is a legal\n\nresident of this state, and who has received training equivalent to\n\nthe training required for CLEET certification in this state; and\n\n8. Any person who is otherwise deemed qualified for a training\n\nexemption by CLEET.\n\nB. Nothing contained in any provision of the Oklahoma Self-\n\nDefense Act shall be construed to alter, amend, or modify the\n\nauthority of any active duty law enforcement officer, or any person\n\ncertified by the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training\n\nto carry a pistol during the course of their employment, to carry\n\nany pistol in any manner authorized by law or authorized by the\n\nemploying agency.","path":["OK Code","Title 21"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os21.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"3334ec521a0210234f85c4a659807d432f36c259746bea19e8c7f4ce0ee07a51","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-21-21-1290.14","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-21-21-1290.16"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
