Stat. tit. 21, § 21-187","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in this section through Section 187.2 of this title:\n\n1. \"Campaign\" means and includes all activities for or against\n\nthe election of a candidate for elective state office or for or\n\nagainst a state question;\n\n2. \"Candidate\" means an individual who has filed or should have\n\nfiled a statement of organization for a candidate committee for\n\nstate office with the Ethics Commission as required by its Rules. A\n\ncandidate committee shall include committees for candidates for\n\npartisan elective offices, for nonpartisan judicial offices and for\n\njudicial retention offices;\n\n3. \"Candidate committee\" means the only committee authorized by\n\na candidate to accept contributions or make expenditures on behalf\n\nof the candidate's campaign, including the campaign of a judicial\n\nretention candidate;\n\n4. \"Contribution\" means any gift, subscription, loan, guarantee\n\nor forgiveness of a loan, conveyance, advance, payment, distribution\n\nor deposit of money made to, or anything of value given to, or an\n\nexpenditure other than an independent expenditure made on behalf of\n\na political party, political action committee or candidate\n\ncommittee, but shall not include the value of services provided\n\nwithout compensation by an individual who volunteers those services;\n\n5. \"Expenditure\" means a purchase, payment, distribution, loan,\n\nadvance, compensation, reimbursement, fee deposit or a gift made by\n\na political party, political action committee, candidate committee\n\nor other individual or entity that is used to expressly advocate the\n\nelection, retention or defeat of one or more clearly identified\n\ncandidates or for or against one or more state questions;\n\n6. \"Limited committee\" means a political action committee\n\norganized to make contributions to candidates; a limited committee\n\nmay make independent expenditures or electioneering communications,\n\nbut may not accept contributions in excess of the limits prescribed\n\nfor limited committees;\n\n7. \"Local office\" means all elective offices for which a\n\ndeclaration of candidacy is filed with the secretary of any county\n\nelection board;\n\n8. \"Political action committee\" means a limited or unlimited\n\ncommittee that has filed or should have filed a statement of\n\norganization with the Ethics Commission as required by its Rules;\n\n9. \"Political party\" means a political party recognized under\n\nthe laws of this state;\n\n10. \"Political party committee\" means a committee authorized by\n\nthe political party to accept contributions or make expenditures on\n\nbehalf of the political party; a political party committee may\n\ninclude a state committee, a Congressional District committee, a\n\ncounty committee, a precinct committee or any other committee or\n\nentity of the party officially recognized in the party's bylaws or\n\nsimilar governing document;\n\n11. \"State office\" means all elective offices for which\n\ndeclarations of candidacy are filed with the Secretary of the State\n\nElection Board;\n\n12. \"State question\" means an initiative or referendum petition\n\nfor which the Governor has issued a proclamation setting the date on\n\nwhich an election shall be held or a legislative referendum referred\n\nby the Legislature for a vote of the people; and\n\n13. \"Unlimited committee\" means an independent judicial\n\nretention committee, a political action committee organized\n\nexclusively for the purpose of making independent expenditures or\n\nelectioneering communications or a political action committee\n\norganized exclusively for the purpose of advocating the approval or\n\ndefeat of a state question.","path":["OK Code","Title 21"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os21.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"a98d4f67c3386777777a39ae3e3811b15d96b956f89fb36ad961428027c26488","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-21-21-1863","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-21-21-187.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
