Stat. tit. 21, § 21-543","heading":"Compounding crimes","body":"\n\nAny person who, having knowledge of the actual commission of a\n\ncrime or violation of statute, takes any money or property of\n\nanother, or any gratuity or reward, or any engagement or promise\n\ntherefor, upon any agreement or understanding, express or implied,\n\nto compound or conceal such crime, or violation of statute, or to\n\nabstain from any prosecution therefor, or to withhold any evidence\n\nthereof, is punishable as follows:\n\n1. By imprisonment for a Class D1 felony offense as provided\n\nfor in subsections B through F of Section 20N of this title, if the\n\ncrime compounded is one punishable either by death or by\n\nimprisonment in the State Penitentiary for life;\n\n2. By imprisonment for a Class D1 felony offense as provided\n\nfor in subsections B through F of Section 20N of this title, if the\n\ncrime compounded was punishable by imprisonment in the State\n\nPenitentiary for any other term than for life; or\n\n3. By imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one (1) year,\n\nor by a fine not exceeding Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250.00), or\n\nby both such fine and imprisonment, if the crime or violation of\n\nstatute compounded is a crime punishable by imprisonment in a county\n\njail, or by fine, or is a misdemeanor, or violation of statute for\n\nwhich a pecuniary or other penalty or forfeiture is prescribed.\n\nR.L. 1910, § 2255.
