The supervising law enforcement official having jurisdiction\n\nin the geographical area where any hostage is held or any suspect is\n\nbarricaded who has probable cause to believe that the holder of any\n\nhostage or that any suspect is committing a crime shall have the\n\nauthority to order a telephone company to arrange to cut, reroute or\n\ndivert telephone lines in any emergency in which any hostage is\n\nbeing held or any suspect is barricaded, for the purpose of\n\npreventing telephone communication by the holder of any hostage or\n\nany barricaded suspect with any person other than a peace officer or\n\na person authorized by the peace officer.\n\nB. The serving telephone company within the geographical area\n\nof a law enforcement unit shall designate appropriate telephone\n\ncompany management employees to provide, or cause to be provided,\n\nall required assistance to law enforcement officials to carry out\n\nthe purposes of this section.\n\nC. Good faith reliance on an order by a supervising law\n\nenforcement official pursuant to this section, shall constitute a\n\ncomplete defense to any civil or criminal action brought against a\n\ntelephone company, its agents or employees, as a result of\n\ncompliance with said order.\n\nD. During any hostage or barricaded suspect situation as\n\nprovided in subsection A of this section it shall be unlawful for\n\nany person to publicly disseminate, unless with the consent or at\n\nthe request of the law enforcement agency of the supervising law\n\nenforcement officer, any information received from any hostage\n\nholder or barricaded suspect when a cellular telephone has been used\n\nto establish contact with such hostage holder or barricaded suspect.\n\nEvery person convicted of a violation of this subsection shall be\n\nguilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed Five\n\nThousand Dollars ($5,000.00).","path":["OK Code","Title 21"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os21.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"c8d62f4e290cb0e93fb4d0922161a8507e7cd26201a8c78b3561537e2da13b5f","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-21-21-746","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-21-21-748"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
