The punishment of death shall be carried out by the\n\nadministration of a lethal quantity of a drug or drugs until death\n\nis pronounced by a licensed physician according to accepted\n\nstandards of medical practice. For purposes of this subsection, the\n\nUniform Controlled Dangerous Substances Act shall not apply to the\n\nDepartment of Corrections or to any person who participates in the\n\nexecution or administers one or more controlled dangerous\n\nsubstances.\n\nB. If the execution of the sentence of death as provided in\n\nsubsection A of this section is held unconstitutional by an\n\nappellate court of competent jurisdiction or is otherwise\n\nunavailable, then the sentence of death shall be carried out by\n\nnitrogen hypoxia.\n\nC. If the execution of the sentence of death as provided in\n\nsubsections A and B of this section is held unconstitutional by an\n\nappellate court of competent jurisdiction or is otherwise\n\nunavailable, then the sentence of death shall be carried out by\n\nelectrocution.\n\nD. If the execution of the sentence of death as provided in\n\nsubsections A, B and C of this section is held unconstitutional by\n\nan appellate court of competent jurisdiction or is otherwise\n\nunavailable, then the sentence of death shall be carried out by\n\nfiring squad.\n\nR.L. 1910, § 5981.
