Stat. tit. 22, § 22-1167","heading":"Finding of insanity - Suspension of trial or judgment -","body":"Commitment to state hospital.\n\nIf the jury finds the defendant presently insane, the trial or\n\njudgment must be suspended until he becomes sane, and if the jury\n\ndeem his discharge dangerous to the public peace or safety, the\n\ncourt shall order that the defendant be committed to one of the\n\nstate hospitals for the mentally ill, and to be held therein and\n\nkept as a patient and inmate, until he be discharged and released as\n\npresently sane by the authority of the superintendent of said\n\nhospital. A release by the superintendent of said hospital shall be\n\nto the custody of the sheriff of the county in which the criminal\n\ncase theretofore suspended is or was pending and from which he was\n\ncommitted.
