Stat. tit. 22, § 22-1278","heading":"Interpreters for deaf mutes - Appointment - Oath -","body":"Compensation.\n\n(a) In all criminal prosecutions, where the accused is a deaf\n\nmute, he shall have all of the proceedings of the trial interpreted\n\nto him in a language that he can understand by a qualified\n\ninterpreter appointed by the court from a list of names submitted by\n\nthe Oklahoma Association of the Deaf.\n\n(b) In all cases where the mental condition of a person is being\n\nconsidered and where such person may be committed to a mental\n\ninstitution, and where such person is a deaf mute, all of the court\n\nproceedings, pertaining to him, shall be interpreted to him in a\n\nlanguage that he understands by a qualified interpreter appointed by\n\nthe court.\n\n(c) Interpreters who shall be appointed under the terms of this\n\nact shall be required to take an oath that they will make a true\n\ninterpretation to the person accused or being examined, which person\n\nis a deaf mute, of all the proceedings of his case in a language\n\nthat he understands; and that he will repeat said deaf mute's\n\nanswers to questions to council, court, or jury, in the English\n\nlanguage, in his best skill and judgment.\n\n(d) Interpreters appointed under the terms of this act shall be\n\npaid for their services a sum to be determined by the court.","path":["OK Code","Title 22"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os22.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"f59055523e3a516bba7f9ffb9ef9f4a05d23207d2ae141a0fec29d239ca06139","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-22-22-1277","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-22-22-128"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
