The regular term of a multicounty grand jury shall be\n\neighteen (18) months unless an order for discharge is entered\n\nearlier:\n\n1. by the court after the multicounty grand jury determines by\n\nmajority vote that its business is completed; or\n\n2. by the court, on its own motion or on the motion of the\n\nAttorney General, upon a determination that termination is in the\n\npublic interest.\n\nB. The regular term of a multicounty grand jury may be extended\n\nby the presiding judge for a specified time period upon a verified\n\npetition by the Attorney General stating that an extension is\n\nnecessary to conclude a grand jury inquiry begun prior to the\n\nexpiration of the regular term.
