Violence and abuse are often higher during pregnancy than\n\nduring any other time in a woman’s lifetime;\n\n2. Women are more likely to suffer increased abuse as a result\n\nof unintended pregnancies;\n\n3. Younger women are at a higher risk for pregnancy-associated\n\nhomicide;\n\n4. A pregnant or recently pregnant woman is more likely to be a\n\nvictim of homicide than to die of any other cause;\n\n5. Homicide and other violent crimes are the leading causes of\n\ndeath for women of reproductive age;\n\n6. Husbands, ex-husbands or boyfriends are often the\n\nperpetrators of pregnancy-associated homicide or violence;\n\n7. Moreover, when husbands, ex-husbands or boyfriends are\n\ninvolved, the violence is often directed at the unborn child and/or\n\nintended to end or jeopardize the pregnancy; and\n\n8.
