Stat. tit. 22, § 22-743","heading":"False pretenses, evidence of","body":"Upon a trial for having, with an intent to cheat or defraud\n\nanother designedly, by any false pretense, obtained the signature of\n\nany person to a written instrument, or having obtained from any\n\nperson any money, personal property or valuable thing, the defendant\n\ncannot be convicted if the false pretense was expressed in language\n\nunaccompanied by a false token or writing, unless the pretense, or\n\nsome note or memorandum thereof, be in writing either subscribed by,\n\nor in the handwriting of the defendant, or unless the pretense be\n\nproven by the testimony of two witnesses, or that of one witness and\n\ncorroborating circumstances.
