Stat. tit. 22, § 22-971","heading":"Defendant may show cause against judgment - Grounds -","body":"Proceedings.\n\nThe defendant may show for cause against the judgment:\n\n1. That the defendant is insane; and if, in the opinion of the\n\ncourt, there is reasonable ground for believing the defendant to be\n\ninsane, the question of the defendant's insanity must be tried as\n\nhereinafter in this chapter. If upon the trial of that question the\n\njury finds that the defendant is sane, judgment must be pronounced.\n\nIf the jury finds the defendant insane, the defendant may be\n\ncommitted to one of the state institutions or hospitals for the\n\nmentally ill, until the defendant becomes sane, or be otherwise\n\ncommitted according to law. When notice is given of that fact, as\n\nhereinafter provided, the defendant must be brought before the court\n\nfor judgment.\n\n2. That the defendant has good cause to offer, either in arrest\n\nof judgment, or for a new trial, in which case the court may order\n\nthe judgment to be deferred, and proceed to decide upon the motion\n\nin arrest of judgment, or for a new trial.\n\nR.L. 1910, § 5932.
