As used in Sections 1451 through 1453 of this title:\n\n1. \"Elderly person\" means any natural person fifty-five (55)\n\nyears of age or older;\n\n2. \"Dwelling\" means:\n\na. any building, structure, or part of a building or\n\nstructure that is occupied as, or designed or intended\n\nfor occupancy as, a residence by one or more families,\n\nor\n\nb. any vacant land that is offered for sale or lease for\n\nthe construction or location of a building, structure,\n\nor part of a building or structure described in\n\nsubparagraph a of this paragraph;\n\n3. \"Person\" includes one or more individuals, corporations,\n\npartnerships, associations, labor organizations, legal\n\nrepresentatives, mutual companies, joint-stock companies, trusts,\n\nunincorporated organizations, trustees, trustees in bankruptcy,\n\nreceivers and fiduciaries, the state, and all political subdivisions\n\nand agencies thereof;\n\n4. \"Restrictive covenants\" means any specification limiting the\n\ntransfer, rental, or lease of any dwelling because of race, color,\n\nreligion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or familial status;\n\n5. \"Discriminatory housing practices\" means an act that is\n\nprohibited pursuant to Section 1452 of this title;\n\n6. \"Disability\" means a mental or physical impairment that\n\nsubstantially limits at least one major life activity, when there is\n\na record of such an impairment, or the individual is regarded as\n\nhaving such an impairment. The term does not include current\n\nillegal use of or addiction to any drug or illegal or federally\n\ncontrolled substance. For purposes of Sections 1451 through 1453 of\n\nthis title, \"an individual with a disability\" or \"disability\" does\n\nnot apply to an individual because of sexual orientation or the\n\nsexual preference of the individual or because that individual is a\n\ntransvestite;\n\n7. \"Unlawful discriminatory practice because of age\" means an\n\nact prohibited pursuant to Section 1452 of this title against a\n\nperson at least eighteen (18) years of age or older solely on that\n\nbasis;\n\n8. \"Aggrieved person\" means any person who:\n\na. claims to have been injured by a discriminatory\n\nhousing practice, or\n\nb. believes that he or she will be injured by a\n\ndiscriminatory housing practice that is about to\n\noccur;\n\n9. \"Complainant\" means a person or the Attorney General who\n\nfiles a complaint pursuant to Section 1452 of this title;\n\n10. \"Conciliation\" means the attempted resolution of issues\n\nraised by a complaint or by the investigation of the complaint,\n\nthrough informal negotiations involving the aggrieved person, the\n\nrespondent, and the Attorney General’s Office of Civil Rights\n\nEnforcement;\n\n11. \"Conciliation agreement\" means a written agreement setting\n\nforth the resolution of the issues in conciliation;\n\n12. \"Discriminatory housing practice\" means an act prohibited\n\nby Section 1452 of this title;\n\n13. \"Family\" includes a single individual;\n\n14. \"Respondent\" means:\n\na. the person accused of a violation of Sections 1451\n\nthrough 1453 of this title in a complaint of a\n\ndiscriminatory housing practice, or\n\nb. any person identified as an additional or substitute\n\nrespondent pursuant to Section 1502.5 of this title or\n\nan agent of an additional or substitute respondent;\n\nand\n\n15. \"To rent\" means to lease, to sublease, to let, or to\n\notherwise grant for a consideration the right to occupy premises not\n\nowned by the occupant.\n\nB. For purposes of Sections 1451 through 1453 of this title, a\n\ndiscriminatory act is committed because of familial status only if\n\nthe act is committed because the person who is the subject of\n\ndiscrimination is:\n\n1. Pregnant;\n\n2. Domiciled with an individual less than eighteen (18) years\n\nof age in regard to whom the person:\n\na. is the parent or legal custodian, or\n\nb. has the written permission of the parent or legal\n\ncustodian for domicile with that person; or\n\n3. In the process of obtaining legal custody of an individual\nthe act is committed because the person who is the subject of\n\ndiscrimination is:\n\n1. Pregnant;\n\n2. Domiciled with an individual less than eighteen (18) years\n\nof age in regard to whom the person:\n\na. is the parent or legal custodian, or\n\nb. has the written permission of the parent or legal\n\ncustodian for domicile with that person; or\n\n3.
