Stat. tit. 25, § 25-2003","heading":"School district policy on parental involvement –","body":"Information to provide to parents.\n\nA. The board of education of a school district, in consultation\n\nwith parents, teachers and administrators, shall develop and adopt a\n\npolicy to promote the involvement of parents and guardians of\n\nchildren enrolled in the schools within the school district,\n\nincluding:\n\n1. A plan for parent participation in the schools which is\n\ndesigned to improve parent and teacher cooperation in such areas as\n\nhomework, attendance and discipline;\n\n2. Procedures by which parents may learn about the course of\n\nstudy for their children and review learning materials, including\n\nthe source of any supplemental educational materials;\n\n3. Procedures by which parents who object to any learning\n\nmaterial or activity on the basis that it is harmful may withdraw\n\ntheir children from the activity or from the class or program in\n\nwhich the material is used. Objection to a learning material or\n\nactivity on the basis that it is harmful includes objection to a\n\nmaterial or activity because it questions beliefs or practices in\n\nsex, morality or religion;\n\n4. If a school district offers any sex education curricula\n\npursuant to Section 11-105.1 of Title 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes or\n\npursuant to any rules adopted by the State Board of Education,\n\nprocedures to opt out of a school district from providing sex\n\neducation instruction to a child if the child's parent provides\n\nwritten objection to the child's participation in the sex education\n\ncurricula;\n\n5. Procedures by which parents will be notified in advance of\n\nand given the opportunity to withdraw their children from any\n\ninstruction or presentations regarding sexuality in courses other\n\nthan formal sex education curricula pursuant to Section 11-105.1 of\n\nTitle 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes;\n\n6. Procedures by which parents may learn about the nature and\n\npurpose of clubs and activities that are part of the school\n\ncurriculum, as well as extracurricular clubs and activities that\n\nhave been approved by the school; and\n\n7. Procedures by which parents may learn about parental rights\n\nand responsibilities under the laws of this state, including the\n\nfollowing:\n\na. the right to opt out of a sex education curriculum if\n\none is provided by the school district,\n\nb. open enrollment rights,\n\nc. the right to opt out of assignments pursuant to this\n\nsection,\n\nd. the right to be exempt from the immunization laws of\n\nthe state pursuant to Section 1210.192 of Title 70 of\n\nthe Oklahoma Statutes,\n\ne. the promotion requirements prescribed in Section\n\n1210.508E of Title 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes,\n\nf. the minimum course of study and competency\n\nrequirements for graduation from high school\n\nprescribed in Section 11-103.6 of Title 70 of the\n\nOklahoma Statutes,\n\ng. the right to opt out of instruction on the acquired\n\nimmune deficiency syndrome pursuant to Section 11-\n\n103.3 of Title 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes,\n\nh. the right to review test results,\n\ni. the right to participate in gifted programs pursuant\n\nto Sections 1210.301 through 1210.308 of Title 70 of\n\nthe Oklahoma Statutes,\n\nj. the right to inspect instructional materials used in\n\nconnection with any research or experimentation\n\nprogram or project pursuant to Section 11-106 of Title\n\n70 of the Oklahoma Statutes,\n\nk. the right to receive a school report card,\n\nl. the attendance requirements prescribed in Section 10-\n\n106 of Title 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes,\n\nm. the right to public review of courses of study and\n\ntextbooks,\n\nn. the right to be excused from school attendance for\n\nreligious purposes,\n\no. policies related to parental involvement pursuant to\n\nthis section,\n\np. the right to participate in parent-teacher\n\nassociations and organizations that are sanctioned by\n\nthe board of education of a school district, and\n\nq. the right to opt out of any data collection instrument\nschool attendance for\n\nreligious purposes,\n\no. policies related to parental involvement pursuant to\n\nthis section,\n\np. the right to participate in parent-teacher\n\nassociations and organizations that are sanctioned by\n\nthe board of education of a school district, and\n\nq. the right to opt out of any data collection instrument\n\nat the district level that would capture data for\n\ninclusion in the state longitudinal student data\n\nsystem except what is necessary and essential for\n\nestablishing a student's public school record.\n\nB. The board of education of a school district may adopt a\n\npolicy to provide to parents the information required by this\n\nsection in an electronic form.\n\nC. A parent shall submit a written request for information\n\npursuant to this section during regular business hours to either the\n\nschool principal at the school site or the superintendent of the\n\nschool district at the office of the school district. Within ten\n\n(10) days of receiving the request for information, the school\n\nprincipal or the superintendent of the school district shall either\n\ndeliver the requested information to the parent or submit to the\n\nparent a written explanation of the reasons for the denial of the\n\nrequested information. If the request for information is denied or\n\nthe parent does not receive the requested information within fifteen\n\n(15) days after submitting the request for information, the parent\n\nmay submit a written request for the information to the board of\n\neducation of a school district, which shall formally consider the\n\nrequest at the next scheduled public meeting of the board if the\n\nrequest can be properly noticed on the agenda.
