All new and revised statutes, administrative rules, local\n\nlaws, ordinances, charters, or regulations promulgated or any\n\npublication published by the state or any political subdivision that\n\nrefers to persons with disabilities shall:\n\n1. Avoid language that:\n\na. implies that a person as a whole is disabled, such as\n\nthe \"mentally ill\" or the \"learning disabled\", or\n\nb. equates persons with their condition, such as\n\n\"epileptics\", \"autistics\", or \"quadriplegics\"; and\n\n2. Replace nonrespectful language by:\n\na. referring to persons with disabilities as persons\n\nfirst; for example, persons with disabilities, persons\n\nwith developmental disabilities, persons with mental\n\nillness, persons with autism, or persons with\n\nintellectual disabilities, and\n\nb. referring to terms such as \"mental retardation\" or\n\n\"mentally retarded\" with terms such as \"intellectual\n\ndisabilities\" or \"intellectually disabled\".\n\nB. Violation of this section shall not be grounds to invalidate\n\nany new or revised statutes, administrative rules, local laws,\n\nordinances, charters, or regulations promulgated or any publication\n\npublished by the state or any political subdivision; provided,\n\nhowever, such documents shall be changed to reflect the provisions\n\nof this section in subsequent revisions.\n\nC. Nothing in this section shall constitute a requirement to\n\nchange the name of any agency or program.
