The seventh day of August of each year is\n\nhereby established as \"Purple Heart Day\" in Oklahoma. The Purple\n\nHeart, as established by George Washington in 1782 and revived in\n\n1932, is a decoration of honor awarded to members of the Armed\n\nForces and to United States citizens honorably wounded in action.\n\nAll residents of this state are requested to devote some portion\n\nof Purple Heart Day to recognizing and commemorating the recipients\n\nof the Purple Heart who have demonstrated a commitment to fighting\n\nfor the ideals which have made this nation great, have served this\n\nnation so valiantly, and are role models for all to emulate.\n\nIt is the intent of the Oklahoma Legislature that:\n\n1. The Governor execute a proclamation each year in recognition\n\nof Purple Heart Day;\n\n2. The Secretary of Veterans Affairs encourage the observance\n\nof Purple Heart Day with appropriate activities;\n\n3. Each local chapter of all veterans' organizations plan\n\nspecial activities and events to honor the Purple Heart recipients\n\nin that chapter; and\n\n4.
