In the event of the death of a political party's nominee for\n\noffice prior to the date of the General Election, or in the event\n\nthat a deceased person receives a political party's nomination for\n\noffice, a substitute candidate will be permitted to have his or her\n\nname placed on the General Election ballot as follows:\n\n1. If the nominee was a candidate for county office, the\n\npolitical party's central committee of the county shall notify the\n\nsecretary of the county election board of the name of an alternative\n\ncandidate to be placed on the General Election ballot. Such notice\n\nshall be submitted in writing, within fifteen (15) days after the\n\ndeath has occurred, but not later than five o'clock p.m. on the\n\nFriday following the date of the Runoff Primary Election, and shall\n\nbe signed by at least two duly authorized members of the political\n\nparty's county central committee. If a political party's central\n\ncommittee fails to submit the notice in the manner described, then a\n\nnominee for that party shall not appear on the ballot for that\n\noffice;\n\n2. If the nominee was a candidate who filed a Declaration of\n\nCandidacy with the State Election Board, the state central committee\n\nof the party affected shall notify the Secretary of the State\n\nElection Board of the name of an alternative candidate to be placed\n\non the General Election ballot. Such notice shall be submitted in\n\nwriting, within fifteen (15) days after the death has occurred, but\n\nnot later than five o'clock p.m. on the Friday following the date of\n\nthe Runoff Primary Election, and shall be signed by at least two\n\nduly authorized members of the political party's state central\n\ncommittee. If a political party's central committee fails to submit\n\nthe notice in the manner described, then a nominee for that party\n\nshall not appear on the ballot for that office; and\n\n3. Provided, if the death of a political party's nominee for\n\nan office described in paragraph 1 or 2 of this subsection should\n\noccur after the Friday following the date of the Runoff Primary\n\nElection, then the election shall proceed with the deceased\n\ncandidate's name printed on the ballot.\n\nB. In the event of the death of an independent candidate for an\n\noffice described in paragraph 1 or 2 of subsection A of this\n\nsection, the following procedure shall apply:\n\n1. If the death occurs on or prior to the Friday following the\n\ndate of the Runoff Primary Election, the candidate's name shall not\n\nbe printed on the ballot; and\n\n2. If the death occurs after the Friday following the date of\n\nthe Runoff Primary Election, the candidate's name shall be printed\n\non the ballot.\n\nC. In the event a deceased candidate is certified by the\n\nappropriate Election Board as having won an election, a vacancy in\n\nthe office shall occur upon the date the candidate would have taken\n\noffice, and the vacancy shall be filled in the manner prescribed by\n\nlaw.\n\nD.
