Stat. tit. 26, § 26-12-116","heading":"Special elections on state or local questions","body":"In the event the Governor or the Legislature shall call for a\n\nspecial statewide election on any measure to be submitted to a vote\n\nof the people, the election shall be held not fewer than seventy\n\n(70) days from the date the election is called. Such special\n\nstatewide election may be on the same date as a primary or general\n\nelection or may be on some other date set by the Governor or the\n\nLegislature. In the event the board of county commissioners or the\n\ngoverning body of a municipality or school district or technology\n\ncenter school district or any other governmental subdivision calls\n\nfor a special election on any question, the election shall be held\n\nnot fewer than sixty (60) days from the date the election is called;\n\nprovided, that a special election called by a school or technology\n\ncenter school district to be held on the date of the annual school\n\nrunoff election shall not be held fewer than forty-five (45) days\n\nfrom the date the special election is called.
