Stat. tit. 27A, § 27A-2-9-102","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in the Radiation Management Act:\n\n1. \"Atomic energy\" means all forms of energy released in the\n\ncourse of nuclear fission or nuclear transformation;\n\n2. \"By-product material\" means any radioactive material, except\n\nspecial nuclear material, yielded in or made radioactive by exposure\n\nto the ionizing radiation incident to the process of producing or\n\nutilizing special nuclear materials;\n\n3. \"Production facility\" means:\n\na. any equipment or device determined under authority of\n\nthe federal Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, to\n\nbe capable of the production of special nuclear\n\nmaterial in such quantity as to be of significance to\n\nthe common defense and security, or in such manner as\n\nto affect the health and safety of the public, or\n\nb. any important component part especially designed for\n\nsuch equipment or device;\n\n4. \"Special nuclear material\" means:\n\na. plutonium, uranium 233, uranium enriched in the\n\nisotope 233 or in the isotope 235, and any other\n\nmaterial which is determined to be special nuclear\n\nmaterial under authority of the federal Atomic Energy\n\nAct of 1954, as amended, but does not include source\n\nmaterial, or\n\nb. any material artificially enriched by any of the\n\nforegoing, but does not include source material;\n\n5. \"Utilization facility\" means:\n\na. any equipment or device, except an atomic or nuclear\n\nweapon, as determined under authority of the federal\n\nAtomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, to be capable\n\nof making use of special nuclear materials in such\n\nquantity as to be of significance to the common\n\ndefense and security or in such manner as to affect\n\nthe health and safety of the public, or peculiarly\n\nadapted for making use of atomic energy in such\n\nquantity as to be of significance to the common\n\ndefense and security or in such manner as to affect\n\nthe health and safety of the public, or\n\nb. any important component part especially designed for\n\nsuch equipment or device;\n\n6. \"Ionizing radiation\" means any electromagnetic or\n\nparticulate radiation capable of producing ions, directly or\n\nindirectly, in its passage through matter, such as alpha particles,\n\nbeta particles, gamma rays, X-rays, neutrons, high-speed electrons,\n\nhigh-speed protons, and other atomic particles, but not sound or\n\nradio waves, or visible, infrared, or ultraviolet light;\n\n7. \"Nonionizing radiation\" means radiation in any portion of\n\nthe electromagnetic spectrum not defined as ionizing radiation, and\n\nat energy levels which may reasonably be expected to cause bodily\n\nharm, including, but not limited to, emissions from such sources as\n\nlasers, microwave and ultraviolet devices;\n\n8. \"Radiation\" means ionizing and nonionizing radiation;\n\n9. \"Source of radiation\" means any radioactive material or any\n\ninstrument or material capable of producing or emitting radiation as\n\ndefined in the preceding paragraph;\n\n10. \"Radiation hazard\" is any condition that could, with\n\nreasonable expectation, result in harmful radiation exposure in such\n\nmanner as to affect the health and safety of the public and the\n\nenvironment;\n\n11. \"Source material\" means:\n\na. uranium or thorium, or any combination thereof, in any\n\nphysical or chemical form, or\n\nb. ores which contain by weight one-twentieth of one\n\npercent (1/20 of 1%) or more of uranium, thorium, or\n\nany combination thereof.\n\nSource material does not include special nuclear material;\n\n12. \"Diagnostic x-ray facility\" means the use of an x-ray\n\nsystem(s) by a facility in any procedure that involves irradiation\n\nof any part of a human or animal body for the purpose of diagnosis;\n\n13. \"Electronic product radiation\" means:\n\na. any ionizing or nonionizing electromagnetic or\n\nparticulate radiation, or\n\nb. any sonic, infrasonic, or ultrasonic wave, which is\n\nemitted from an electronic product as the result of\n\nthe operation of an electronic circuit in such\na facility in any procedure that involves irradiation\n\nof any part of a human or animal body for the purpose of diagnosis;\n\n13. \"Electronic product radiation\" means:\n\na. any ionizing or nonionizing electromagnetic or\n\nparticulate radiation, or\n\nb. any sonic, infrasonic, or ultrasonic wave, which is\n\nemitted from an electronic product as the result of\n\nthe operation of an electronic circuit in such\n\nproduct;
