Stat. tit. 27A, § 27A-3-7-111","heading":"Short title — Spring Creek Watershed Study Act —","body":"Legislative findings.\n\nA. This act shall be known and may be cited as the “Spring\n\nCreek Watershed Study Act”.\n\nB. The Legislature finds that:\n\n1. Increasing pressure from agriculture and residential\n\ndevelopment as well as stream bank erosion and other activities have\n\nled to declining water quality levels in the Northeast Oklahoma\n\nwatershed known as Spring Creek located in Cherokee, Delaware, and\n\nMayes counties near Kansas, Oklahoma, resulting in increased concern\n\nby the residents of the Spring Creek area and citizens of Oklahoma\n\nas a whole as to the continued health of the watershed. The once\n\npristine stream is a prime example of how many similar high quality\n\nOzark waterbodies that draw millions of visitors to the area each\n\nyear, support water supplies for growing urban centers in Oklahoma,\n\nand provide habitat for important wildlife and fisheries resources\n\nare threatened without cooperative, voluntary protective action by\n\nlocal communities and other stakeholders;\n\n2. Improved voluntary land management practices including soil\n\nconservation practices, riparian restoration and protection,\n\nreforestation, streambank livestock exclusion, and other methods of\n\nstewardship have great potential to improve and protect the quality\n\nof water in the Spring Creek watershed while improving the\n\necological health of the area; and\n\n3. It is in the interest of the citizens of this state as a\n\nwhole and the residents of the Spring Creek watershed that the\n\nOklahoma Conservation Commission, in partnership with other local,\n\nstate, and federal agencies and nongovernmental organizations,\n\nundertake a comprehensive water quality study of Spring Creek to\n\ndetermine the best course of action to protect and improve the\n\nhealth of the aquatic habitat in the watershed.\n\nC. It is the intent of the Legislature that the findings of\n\nthis study will be used to direct implementation of voluntary,\n\nincentive-based conservation practices by the Commission in\n\npartnership with other local, state, and federal agencies and\n\nsubject to availability of resources, in the Spring Creek watershed\n\nto protect and improve the aquatic habitat and water quality in the\n\narea.","path":["OK Code","Title 27A"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os27A.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"abd093670d2e0128d7edab22403e32839628fcd561d228ebf52299ef723ce04e","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-27a-27a-3-7-105","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-27a-27a-3-7-112"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
