It is the purpose of the Oklahoma Guardianship Act to\n\npromote the general welfare of all citizens by establishing a system\n\nof general and limited guardianships for minors and for\n\nincapacitated and partially incapacitated persons which provides for\n\nthe protection of their rights and the management of their financial\n\nresources.\n\nB. It is the purpose of the system of general and limited\n\nguardianships for incapacitated and partially incapacitated persons\n\nestablished by this act to provide for the participation of such\n\npersons, as fully as possible, in the decisions which affect them.\n\nIt is the intent of the Oklahoma State Legislature:\n\n1. That the court shall exercise the authority conferred by the\n\nOklahoma Guardianship Act so as to encourage the development of\n\nmaximum self-reliance and independence of the incapacitated or\n\npartially incapacitated person and make appointive and other orders\n\nonly to the extent necessitated by the mental and adaptive\n\nlimitations or other condition of the incapacitated or partially\n\nincapacitated person warranting the procedure;\n\n2. That in performing their duties and exercising their powers,\n\nguardians and limited guardians of incapacitated or partially\n\nincapacitated persons shall:\n\na. assure, to the extent reasonably possible, that the\n\nrights of the wards for whom they are appointed are\n\nprotected;\n\nb. encourage, to the extent reasonably possible,\n\nincapacitated or partially incapacitated persons to\n\nparticipate to the maximum extent of their abilities\n\nin all decisions which affect them and to act on their\n\nown behalf on all matters in which they are able to do\n\nso within the limitations imposed by the court; and\n\nc. as appropriate, assist their wards to develop or\n\nregain to the maximum extent possible their capacity\n\nto meet the essential requirements for their health or\n\nsafety, or to manage their financial resources or\n\nboth.","path":["OK Code","Title 30"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os30.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"a8bf0a345f5d996b5543b6365d1caf61747fcc1f175a65cd0417ff9f9077b0c9","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-30-30-1-102","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-30-30-1-104"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
