Stat. tit. 30, § 30-2-106","heading":"Appointment of parents as guardians","body":"A minor's parent who is competent to transact his or her own\n\nbusiness and not otherwise unsuitable or disqualified by law to\n\nserve as the guardian of said minor, shall be entitled to the\n\nguardianship of the minor until the minor has attained the age of\n\nfourteen (14) years. The parent petitioning the court for\n\nappointment as guardian of the minor must have the endorsement or\n\nnomination of the other parent, if the natural parents of the minor\n\nare married and living together. In cases where both parents are\n\nseparately seeking appointment as guardian of the minor, the court\n\nmay, upon full investigation, appoint the parent who in the judgment\n\nof the court is the most competent to look after the interest of\n\nsaid minor.\n\nR.L. 1910, § 6530.
