Within forty-eight (48) hours after stock has been\n\ndistrained, Sunday not being included, the party distraining, or\n\nsuch party's agent, shall notify the owner of the stock when known,\n\nor, if unknown, the party having them in charge. If the owner fails\n\nto satisfy the person whose lands are trespassed upon, the party\n\ninjured shall, within twenty-four (24) hours thereafter, notify in\n\nwriting the county sheriff to come upon the premises to view and\n\nassess the damages.\n\nB. The county sheriff shall, within forty-eight (48) hours\n\nafter receiving such notice, Sundays and holidays excepted, proceed\n\nto view and assess the damages, and determine a reasonable amount to\n\nbe paid for seizing and keeping said stock. If the person owning\n\nthe distrained stock fails to pay the damages as assessed, the\n\nsheriff shall provide for the public notice and sale of the\n\ndistrained stock as provided by Section 85.6 of this title.\n\nC.
