Stat. tit. 4, § 4-43","heading":"Counties over 200,000 population - Regulation and control of","body":"dogs running at large - Penalties.\n\nThe board of county commissioners of any county with a\n\npopulation of two hundred thousand (200,000) or more according to\n\nthe last Federal Decennial Census may regulate or prohibit the\n\nrunning at large of dogs within said county, and cause such dogs as\n\nmay be running at large to be impounded and disposed of as otherwise\n\nprovided for by law or sold to discharge the costs and penalties\n\nprovided for the violation of such prohibition and the expense of\n\nimpounding and keeping the same for such sale; and may also provide\n\nfor the erection of all needful pens, pounds and buildings for the\n\nuse of said county at any place within said county. It shall be the\n\nduty of the board of county commissioners of any county undertaking\n\nthe regulation and taxation of dogs in said county under this act to\n\nestablish and enforce rules governing the same, and they shall enter\n\ninto a definite cooperative agreement with the sheriff of said\n\ncounty prescribing said rules and regulations and the manner and\n\nterms of enforcement thereof, and for the financing and compensation\n\ntherefor. The board of county commissioners may also regulate and\n\nprovide for taxing the owners and harborers of dogs, and authorize\n\nthe humane killing or disposal of dogs, found at large, contrary to\n\nany ordinance regulating the same. Any person, firm or corporation\n\nwho violates any rule or regulation made by such board of county\n\ncommissioners under the authority of this act shall be guilty of a\n\nmisdemeanor and shall be punished as provided by the laws of this\n\nstate in any court of competent jurisdiction, provided that in the\n\ncase of continuing offenses, each day on which the offense occurs\n\nshall constitute a separate offense.","path":["OK Code","Title 4"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os4.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"5bf21d3ef6d9025dc65d4c70ef1891155f89f7be910bfcfbecd7d6bf59fda1ee","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-4-4-42.4","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-4-4-44"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
