Stat. tit. 4, § 4-44","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in Section 44 et seq. of this title:\n\n1. \"Potentially dangerous dog\" means any dog that:\n\na. when unprovoked inflicts bites on a human either on\n\npublic or private property, or\n\nb. when unprovoked attacks a dog which results in the\n\ndeath of said dog either on public or private\n\nproperty;\n\n2. \"Dangerous dog\" means any dog that:\n\na. has inflicted severe injury on a human being without\n\nprovocation on public or private property,\n\nb. has been previously found to be potentially dangerous,\n\nthe owner having received notice of such by the animal\n\ncontrol authority in writing and the dog thereafter\n\naggressively bites, attacks, or endangers the safety\n\nof humans, or\n\nc. has been previously found to be potentially dangerous,\n\nthe owner having received notice of such by the animal\n\ncontrol authority in writing and the dog thereafter\n\nattacks a dog which results in the death of said dog\n\neither on public of private property;\n\n3. \"Severe injury\" means any physical injury that results in\n\nbroken bones or lacerations requiring multiple sutures or cosmetic\n\nsurgery;\n\n4. \"Proper enclosure of a dangerous dog\" means, while on the\n\nowner's property, a dangerous dog shall be securely confined indoors\n\nor in a securely enclosed and locked pen or structure with at least\n\none hundred fifty (150) square feet of space for each dog kept\n\ntherein which is over six (6) months of age, and which is suitable\n\nto prevent the entry of children and designed to prevent the animal\n\nfrom escaping. Such pen or structure shall have secure sides and a\n\nsecure top, and shall also provide protection from the elements for\n\nthe dog;\n\n5. \"Animal control authority\" means an entity acting alone or\n\nin concert with other local governmental units for enforcement of\n\nthe animal control laws of the city, county and state and the\n\nshelter and welfare of animals;\n\n6. \"Animal control officer\" means any individual employed,\n\ncontracted with, or appointed by the animal control authority for\n\nthe purpose of aiding the enforcement of this act or any other law\n\nor ordinance relating to the licensure of animals, control of\n\nanimals, or seizure and impoundment of animals, and includes any\n\nstate or local law enforcement officer or other employee whose\n\nduties in whole or in part include assignments that involve the\n\nseizure and impoundment of any animal; and\n\n7. \"Owner\" means any person, firm, corporation, organization,\n\nor department possessing, harboring, keeping, having an interest in,\n\nor having control or custody of an animal.","path":["OK Code","Title 4"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os4.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"b0c43c09f56430a7f88c0f061e0542b5a413ec6661949fd4cdc3d53ba5c95cd9","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-4-4-43","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-4-4-45"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
