Stat. tit. 4, § 4-502","heading":"Denatured sodium pentobarbital - Method of administration –","body":"Possession and purchase by certified animal euthanasia technician.\n\nA. Denatured sodium pentobarbital shall be administered by any\n\none of the following methods:\n\n1. Intravenous or intracardial injection of a lethal dose in\n\ndogs and cats. Intracardiac injection is acceptable only when\n\nperformed on heavily sedated, anesthetized, or comatose animals;\n\n2. Oral ingestion by wild or intractable dogs of powdered\n\ndenatured sodium pentobarbital in capsules mixed with food, with the\n\ndog remaining in its individual cage until dead; or\n\n3. Intraperitoneal or intracardial injection in cats, kittens\n\nand puppies when location of and injection into the vein is\n\ndifficult or impossible. Intracardiac injection is acceptable only\n\nwhen performed on heavily sedated, anesthetized, or comatose\n\nanimals.\n\nB. Denatured sodium pentobarbital shall be administered under\n\nthe following conditions:\n\n1. A sharp and undamaged hypodermic needle shall be used for\n\neach animal and be of a size suitable for the size and species of\n\nanimal, and method of injection; and\n\n2. Administration shall be by a licensed veterinarian or by a\n\nperson trained for this purpose and approved and supervised by a\n\nlicensed veterinarian, or a person certified as an animal euthanasia\n\ntechnician by the Oklahoma State Board of Veterinary Medical\n\nExaminers or an animal control officer registered by the Oklahoma\n\nState Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control as provided in\n\nsubsection D of this section.\n\nC. 1. Any certified animal euthanasia technician that is\n\nregistered by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs\n\nControl, Drug Enforcement Agency, and who holds a valid certificate\n\nissued by the Oklahoma Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners or any\n\nanimal control officer that is registered by the Oklahoma Bureau of\n\nNarcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control is authorized to purchase and\n\npossess denatured sodium pentobarbital or other drugs approved by\n\nthe registering entity for euthanasia of animals provided they are\n\nworking in conjunction with a law enforcement agency, animal control\n\nagency, or animal shelter that is recognized and approved by the\n\nBoard or the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs\n\nControl; and\n\n2. Denatured sodium pentobarbital and other drugs approved by\n\nthe Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners or the Oklahoma Bureau of\n\nNarcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control shall be the only drugs used\n\nfor the euthanasia of animals in an animal shelter.","path":["OK Code","Title 4"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os4.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"11c67192ebce7079c68dca88367dbee869ca9ebbeb2d7813bfe8deb5cff62f39","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-4-4-501","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-4-4-503"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
