Stat. tit. 4, § 4-85.3","heading":"Taking up by landowner or lessee - Investigation -","body":"Reports.\n\nAny landowner or lessee of land may take up any domestic animal\n\nthat strays upon his premises or any public thoroughfare adjoining\n\nthe same. When any person shall take up any stray animal, he shall\n\nmake a reasonable investigation immediately to ascertain the owner\n\nof such animal and, within seven (7) days, he shall report such\n\ntaking up to the county sheriff of the county in which the animal\n\nwas taken up, giving a description of the animal, setting forth the\n\nbrand, sex, and approximate age of such animal. When the identity\n\nof the owner of any stray animal is known to the taker-up he shall\n\ncommunicate to the said owner that the animal has strayed and that\n\nhe has taken it up. The taker-up may require the owner of any\n\nstrayed animal he has taken up to pay the actual cost of its keep\n\nwhile so taken up plus all damages that the strayed animal caused to\n\nthe premises.
