Stat. tit. 4, § 4-85.4","heading":"Rights and duties of taker-up","body":"Upon taking up an estray animal or animals, and after sending a\n\ndescription to the county sheriff, the taker-up shall be entitled to\n\nhold the same lawfully until relieved of its custody by the sheriff.\n\nShould a claimant for said animal apply to the taker-up for\n\npossession of this animal, the taker-up shall at once notify the\n\nsheriff, and should the sheriff be satisfied that said applicant is\n\nthe rightful owner, he shall issue an order authorizing the taker-up\n\nto grant possession of the estray to the rightful owner.
