Stat. tit. 40, § 40-141.1","heading":"Short title - Definitions","body":"This act shall be known and may be cited as the \"Boiler and\n\nPressure Vessel Safety Act\", and, except as otherwise herein\n\nprovided, shall apply to all boilers and pressure vessels. For the\n\npurpose of this act, the following definitions apply:\n\n1. \"Boiler\" means a closed vessel in which water is heated,\n\nsteam is generated, steam is superheated, or any combination\n\nthereof, under pressure or vacuum, for external use to itself, by\n\nthe direct application of heat. The term \"boiler\" includes fired\n\nunits for heating or vaporizing liquids other than water where these\n\nunits are separate from processing systems and complete within\n\nthemselves:\n\na. \"power boiler\" means a boiler in which steam or other\n\nvapor is generated at a pressure of more than fifteen\n\n(15) pounds per square inch gauge, or as further\n\ndefined in American Society of Mechanical Engineers\n\nBoiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section I,\n\nb. \"high-temperature water boiler\" means a water boiler\n\nintended for operation at pressures in excess of one\n\nhundred sixty (160) pounds per square inch gauge; or\n\ntemperatures in excess of two hundred fifty degrees\n\nFahrenheit (250° F), or as further defined in\n\nAmerican Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and\n\nPressure Vessel Code Section I,\n\nc. \"low pressure steam boiler\" means a steam boiler\n\noperating at pressures not exceeding fifteen (15)\n\npounds per square inch gauge, or as further defined\n\nin American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler\n\nand Pressure Vessel Code Section IV,\n\nd. \"hot water heating boiler\" means a heating boiler\n\noperating at pressures not exceeding one hundred\n\nsixty (160) pounds per square inch gauge - one\n\nthousand one hundred three (1,103) kilopascals and/or\n\ntemperatures not exceeding two hundred fifty degrees\n\nFahrenheit (250° F), one hundred twenty-one degrees\n\nCelsius (121° C), at or near the boiler outlet, or as\n\nfurther defined in American Society of Mechanical\n\nEngineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section IV,\n\ne. \"hot water supply boiler\" means a supply boiler\n\noperating at pressures not exceeding one hundred\n\nsixty (160) pounds per square inch gauge - one\n\nthousand one hundred three (1,103) kilopascals and/or\n\ntemperatures not exceeding two hundred fifty degrees\n\nFahrenheit (250° F), one hundred twenty-one degrees\n\nCelsius (121° C), at or near the boiler outlet, or as\n\nfurther defined in American Society of Mechanical\n\nEngineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section IV,\n\nand\n\nf. \"hot water supply heater\" means a closed vessel in\n\nwhich water is heated by the combustion of fuels,\n\nelectricity or any other source and withdrawn for use\n\nexternal to the system at pressures not exceeding one\n\nhundred sixty (160) pounds per square inch gauge and\n\nshall include all controls and devices necessary to\n\nprevent water temperature from exceeding two hundred\n\nten degrees Fahrenheit (210° F), ninety-eight point\n\nnine degrees Celsius (98.9°C);\n\n2. \"Pressure vessel\" means a vessel in which pressure is\n\nobtained from an external source or by the application of heat other\n\nthan those vessels defined in paragraph 1 of this section or as\n\nfurther defined in American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler\n\nand Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII, Division I;\n\n3. \"Certificate of operation\" means an annual certificate,\n\nunless otherwise provided for in this act, issued by the\n\nCommissioner of Labor permitting the operation of a boiler or\n\npressure vessel which has been inspected as provided for in this\n\nact;\n\n4. \"Steam lines\" means piping of welded construction in which\n\nsteam is contained and/or transported at a pressure in excess of\n\nfifteen (15) pounds per square inch gauge; and\n\n5. \"Commissioner\" means the Commissioner of Labor or the\n\nCommissioner’s duly authorized representative.","path":["OK Code","Title 40"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os40.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"fccd11f91eb4ad6d5624d2b891864ab41724c30e81152831fc517b3165353418","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-40-40-11","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-40-40-141.10"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
