Stat. tit. 40, § 40-171","heading":"Public service corporation to give letter to employee","body":"leaving service.\n\nWhenever any employee of any public service corporation, or of a\n\ncontractor, who works for such corporation, doing business in this\n\nstate, shall be discharged or voluntarily quits the service of such\n\nemployer, it shall be the duty of the superintendent or manager, or\n\ncontractor, upon request of such employee to issue to such employee\n\na letter, setting forth the nature of the service rendered by such\n\nemployee to such corporation or contractor, and the duration\n\nthereof, and truly stating the cause for which such employee was\n\ndischarged from or quit such service, and, if any such\n\nsuperintendent, manager or contractor shall fail or refuse to issue\n\nsuch letter, to such employee, when so requested, or shall willfully\n\nor negligently refuse or fail to state the facts correctly, such\n\nsuperintendent, manager or contractor shall be deemed guilty of a\n\nmisdemeanor and upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine\n\nof not less than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00), and not more than\n\nFive Hundred Dollars ($500.00), and by imprisonment in the county\n\njail for a period of not less than one (1) month and not exceeding\n\none (1) year: Provided, that such letter shall be written, in its\n\nentirety, upon a plain sheet of white paper to be selected by such\n\nemployee. No printed blank shall be used, and if such letter be\n\nwritten upon a typewriter, it shall be signed with pen and black ink\n\nand immediately beneath such signature shall be affixed the official\n\nstamp, or seal, of said superintendent, manager or other officer of\n\nsuch corporation or contractor, in an upright position. There shall\n\nbe no figures, words or letters used, upon such piece of paper,\n\nexcept such as are plainly essential, either in the date line,\n\naddress, the body of the letter or the signature and seal or stamp\n\nthereafter, and no such letter shall have any picture, imprint,\n\ncharacter, design, device, impression or mark, either in the body\n\nthereof or upon the face or back thereof and any person of whom such\n\nletter is required who fails to comply with the foregoing\n\nrequirements shall be liable to the penalties above prescribed.","path":["OK Code","Title 40"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os40.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"e6142df0b4e8210918593d76020e67894aba4f22491167fdf5b6fc11cb889e64","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-40-40-170","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-40-40-172"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
