This section shall be known and may be cited as the\n\n\"Voluntary Veterans' Preference Employment Policy Act\".\n\nB. As used in this section:\n\n1. \"DD 214\" means United States Department of Defense Form 214\n\nor a similarly effective form issued by the Department relating to\n\nseparation from military service;\n\n2. \"Private employer\" means a business entity in the private\n\nsector of this state with one or more employees;\n\n3. \"Veteran\" means a person who served on active duty in the\n\nArmed Forces of the United States who was discharged or released\n\nwith an honorable discharge and registered with the veterans\n\nregistry created by the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs; and\n\n4. \"Veterans' preference employment policy\" means a private\n\nemployer's voluntary preference for hiring, promoting or retaining a\n\nveteran over another qualified applicant or employee.\n\nC. A private employer may have a voluntary veterans' preference\n\nemployment policy. The policy:\n\n1. Shall be in writing; and\n\n2. Shall be applied uniformly to employment decisions regarding\n\nhiring, promotion or retention during a reduction in force.\n\nD. An employer may require that a veteran submit a DD 214 to a\n\nprivate employer with a veterans' preference employment policy to be\n\neligible for the preference.\n\nE. The granting of a veterans' preference pursuant to the\n\nprovisions of this section shall not be deemed to violate any local\n\nor state equal employment opportunity law or regulation.\n\nF.
